Dollis Hill’s own Jubilee line station has kept its 1938 Art Deco platform buildings, designed by London Underground architect Stanley Heaps. The area’s best-known claim to history, though, is wartime: the Post Office Research Station here built key equipment for the Colossus codebreaking computers used at Bletchley Park, and an alternative underground Cabinet War Room bunker for Winston Churchill’s government, codenamed “Paddock”, was dug beneath Dollis Hill during the Second World War. Housing around Gladstone Park today is a mix of inter-war semis and terraces typical of the area’s 1920s–30s suburban growth.
